Thriving Business

The City of Hampton and Hampton University support local businesses: The Small Business Incubator, which is in Phoebus, is the result of an idea created by the Hampton Community Development Corporation and HU. The Incubator works by providing services to tenants at a reduced rate, including office space and furniture, computers, clerical help, utilities, janitorial services, telephone answering services and security. This service allows new businesses to overcome some of the usual obstacles and setbacks due to the vast start-up costs for new businesses.

Students of Hampton University's Architecture program look to Hampton for design experience: The City supported a design project created by students of HU's Architecture program that explored new ways to improve business along the Kecoughtan Road corridor.

Hampton University students help design our City: Hampton University students created models of the Hampton Convention Center and the Power Plant of Hampton Roads, which were used during the Groundbreaking of the Hampton Roads Convention Center and the Embassy Suites Hotel on May 16, 2003.
