The program focuses on the upcoming Grand Opening of the Virginia Baseball Academy.  Wayne Gomes, a Phoebus High graduate later played professionally for The Philadelphia Phillies.  The Virginia Baseball Academy, Hampton Roads’ newest sports training facility, is dedicated to meeting the needs of players in all ages and abilities.  Grand opening:  November 1st from 4:30-7 p.m., 1322 LaSalle Avenue.

Day of Remembrance and Hope

Held September 11 at Gosnold's Hope Park, the City of Hampton and the Hampton Military Affairs Committee (MAC) sponsored a ceremony to honor the Armed Services and Public Safety personnel who protect the nation every day.  Public readings were held near the Trees of Hope, a strand of eleven evergreen trees planted in co-mingled soils from the sites of the three attacks that occurred on that day (the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Somerset County, Pennsylvania).

This feature was produced by the Hampton Health Department in conjunction with the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. The program highlights the month of September that has been declared Prostate Awareness Cancer Month.

Upcoming Programs

Lights On After School

Parents were offered an opportunity on October 16 to learn how well-structured after school programs in Hampton can have a positive impact on academic achievement, social development, healthy lifestyles, and prevention outcomes for youth and teens.


"Click or Call" Campaign"

On October 14, the “Click or Call” campaign, showcased two valuable resources for parents in the Hampton Roads region at the Cinema Cafe.  The program highlighted two resources:  www.KidsPriorityOne.org and 1-800-CHILDREN. Anne Holton, First Lady of Virginia was a featured guest.  Hampton Mayor Molly Ward provided details of the Mayor’s Book Club initiative.

 
City Council Meetings

Council meetings are regularly scheduled for the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the Council Chambers, 8th Floor, City Hall at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are televised live on City Channel TV-47 Hampton and are simulcast on the website at: www.hampton.gov/council/council_meetings.html
