The mission of the Community Development Department is to promote the health, safety, and welfare of our citizens, neighborhoods, and districts through orderly land use and development as well as the preservation of our historic and natural resources in an efficient and effective manner that contributes towards making Hampton the most livable city in Virginia.
HOUSING & NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES DIVISION
The Housing and Neighborhood Services Division builds and supports partnerships that are dedicated to making Hampton's neighborhoods the premium choice for caring citizens.
LAND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DIVISION
The Land Development Services Division promotes a single source for information, guidance, and support for land development by supporting, promoting and facilitating creative solutions and processes for development customers in the City of Hampton. Through effective communications, administration, and our streamlined procedures and processes, we implement the strategic goals of Hampton's Community Plan and ensure benefits to developers and the City of Hampton.
CENTRAL PERMITS DIVISION
The Hampton Central Permits Office perform 90% of the city's permitting functions. Team members manage the day-to-day work of the Central Permit Office.
NEW CONSTRUCTION DIVISION
The New Construction Division provides for the general health, safety, and welfare of our citizens by providing timely, professional inspections on new construction, renovation, and alteration projects in a manner that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
PLANNING DIVISION
The mission of the Planning Division is to support the City by facilitating the translation of community values, goals, and objectives into a vision for the physical development of the most livable city in Virginia.
PROPERTY MAINTENANCE DIVISION
The Property Maintenance Division contributes to the well being of the City through fair Code enforcement and citizen education while providing excellent customer service.
SUPPORT SERVICES DIVISION
The Support Services Division members, physically disbursed throughout the department, provide administrative and technical assistance to all customers, as well as provide employee-related support, contributing to a smoothly running Community Development Department.
